Filming Locations:

Father of the Bride

As Woody Allen did with Manhattan, some films feature a location so prominently, it feels like a character in itself. The house from the 1991 film, Father of the Bride, is a huge part of the plot, with most of the major action of the film occurring in or near the house. Finding the right house was of the utmost importance to the filmmakers. It needed to provide the perfect “homey” quality but still make for a magical environment, as the house itself acts as the location for the wedding of the titular bride. And, as anyone who has seen the film can attest, they chose the exact right house.

Scandals:

The Lamb Funeral Home Scandal (1987): One of California's most gruesome true crime cases unfolded at this historic mortuary on Orange Grove Boulevard. Operator David Sconce ran an assembly-line cremation scheme—packing multiple bodies into furnaces to save costs—and engaged in extracting dental gold from corpses, illegal black market organ sales, and hiring strongmen to assault business rivals.

The Rocket Scientist & Occultist (1940s-1950s): Pasadena resident Jack Parsons, a brilliant aerospace engineer and co-founder of JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory) and Aerojet, lived a double life in a bohemian mansion. He hosted bizarre sex-magic rituals with L. Ron Hubbard (who would later found Scientology) and was investigated for espionage. His life ended tragically and suspiciously in 1952 when he blew himself up in his garage laboratory.
